Devashish Makhija’s survival thriller, “Joram,” starring Manoj Bajpayee, is set for a worldwide theatrical release in December 2023, backed by Zee Studios.
The film, which premiered at Rotterdam and also screened at Busan’s “A Window on Asian Cinema” category, follows Dasru (Manoj Bajpayee), a tribal migrant worker in Mumbai, forced to flee with his infant daughter as his past catches up with him. Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub plays a determined Mumbai cop in pursuit, and Smita Tambe adds intrigue as a sinister tribal lawmaker. Special appearances are made by Tannishtha Chatterjee and Rajshri Deshpande.
“Joram” is a co-production of Zee Studios and Makhijafilm. Zee Studios has seen success in 2023, with accolades for “Joram” at Sydney, Edinburgh, and Durban, where Manoj Bajpayee won Best Actor. The film continues its festival run with upcoming screenings at the Chicago International Film Festival, IFFSA Toronto, and the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival. Zee Studios also presented “Kennedy” at Cannes and had successes with “Aatmapamphlet,” “Brown,” and “Gadar 2.”
