In a heart-wrenching incident that unfolded on Monday evening at Rajguru Foods Godown in Vijayapura city, Karnataka, a maize bagging machine collapse has left the community in shock. The catastrophe resulted in the tragic loss of three migrant workers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, who were among more than a dozen individuals caught under the massive machine when it suddenly gave way.
Rescue operations have been underway since the unfortunate incident, spearheaded by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the Fire Force and Emergency Services authorities. The operation involves the use of four cranes and JCBs to carefully extract those trapped. Miraculously, three workers have been successfully rescued and promptly taken to the hospital.
The situation remains dire, with four more workers still under the machine and chances of survival deemed minimal. In an effort to enhance the rescue mission, a 30-member team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been dispatched from Pune.
M.B. Patil, the Minister for Industries and Vijayapura district in-charge minister, visited the site on Monday night. He expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as a significant tragedy, especially impacting workers from other states. Patil emphasized that the immediate focus is on the ongoing rescue operation, ensuring the safety of the remaining trapped workers, and providing appropriate compensation to the grieving families.
