As the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 enters its crucial semi-final stage, the spotlight turns to two seasoned umpires achieving significant milestones in their illustrious careers.
In a historic moment, Rod Tucker is set to officiate his 100th One Day International (ODI) during the semi-final clash between cricket powerhouses India and New Zealand. The Australian umpire, alongside England’s Richard Illingworth, will be at the forefront of the action in the Mumbai showdown, a repeat of the 2019 semi-final where New Zealand emerged victorious over India.
Illingworth, who also officiated in the previous encounter, witnessed New Zealand’s triumph in a weather-affected match at Old Trafford. Tucker, on that occasion serving as the third umpire, marked his ODI debut in January 2009. Joining him for this milestone match are Joel Wilson, Adrian Holdstock, and match referee Andy Pycroft.
Simultaneously, Richard Kettleborough joins the centurion club, officiating his 100th ODI during the second semi-final between Australia and South Africa in Kolkata. Achieving this feat during the Netherlands vs. Sri Lanka match on October 21, Kettleborough is no stranger to World Cup semi-finals, overseeing his third consecutive one. His team includes Nitin Menon (making his World Cup debut), Chris Gaffaney as the third umpire, Michael Gough as the fourth umpire, and Javagal Srinath as the match referee.
Adding to the list of milestones, Ahsan Raza celebrated his 50th ODI during the match between England and the Netherlands in Pune on November 8. ICC Manager of Umpires and Referees Sean Easey extended congratulations to the match officials for their dedicated efforts.
